Vancouver Bible Fellowship is a non-denominational Bible church committed to bringing clear, biblical, Christ centered, expository teaching through, "...the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27) and Christ centered worship to the greater Vancouver / Portland area. We proclaim Jesus Christ, "...admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ." (Colossians 1:28)
This ministry was born in 2001 as God impressed upon the heart of our pastor, Greg Lundstedt, that the East Vancouver / Camas area was in need of a Christ centered, biblically based, ministry of God's written Word. During this time, God was impressing the same need upon the hearts of others.
Beginning with a home Bible study, we soon stepped out in faith with our first Sunday worship service on February 10, 2002. From the beginning we have been committed to the proclamation of His life changing Word. We are a local church, experiencing the spiritual growth and blessings that God brings as we obey His written Word and serve Him together.
Our Philosophy of Ministry
In obedience to Matthew 28:19, our philosophy of ministry emphasizes discipleship as defined by the equipping of believers for the building up of the church so we can attain to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God (Ephesians 4:12-16). This growth and maturation is accomplished by the Holy Spirit (John 14:26) through submission to the teaching of His written Word, fellowship with other believers, and providing opportunities for service, so that we can effectively continue to, "...Go therefore and make disciples..." (Matthew 28:19).
Vancouver Bible Fellowship is led by elders (Acts 14:23; Phil 1:1; Titus 1:5), men who possess and exhibit the requirements prescribed in the New Testament (I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; I Peter 5:1-5). Equal in authority, the elders make their decisions in prayerful unity and unanimity with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in submission to Jesus Christ and His written Word (Acts 15:6-29; 20:17-32). When needed, the elders may appoint men and women to non-leadership roles (i.e. deacon & deaconess) to assist the ministry. These recognized servants must also possess and exhibit the requirements prescribed in the New Testament (I Timothy 3:8-13).
How We Minister and Serve
The New Testament does not make a distinction between clergy and laity; therefore you will not find a senior pastor at Vancouver Bible Fellowship. What you will find is that preaching is performed by an elder who has the spiritual gifting of pastor/teacher. Likewise, since every believer has been given one or more spiritual gift(s) and is commanded to use them (1 Peter 4:10-11), we help, exhort, and encourage each believer to discover and use their spiritual gift(s) in God's strength to serve one another. Jesus said, "...apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5). And the apostle Paul stated, "Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant,” (II Corinthians 3:5-6). Indeed, there is great pain, exhaustion, burnout, and often bitterness when we attempt to serve in our own strength and in areas that we are not gifted and equipped. Our desire is that you experience the great joy and privilege that accompanies serving God in His strength, with the gift(s) He has given you.
How It All Comes Together
We recognize that God the Father has ordained us to enter into and grow in our relationship with Him through God the Son and His indwelling Holy Spirit using the written Word of God (I Thessalonians 2:13; I Peter 1:23-25, 2:1-3; I John 1:3). As we grow in faith and obedience to the Father through Jesus Christ, we will grow in our love for fellow believers (II Thessalonians 1:3; I John 5:1-4). Therefore, we desire that every aspect of this ministry be grounded in the written Word of God so that we would know Christ in a deeper way, love each other, and be equipped for life. Jesus said, "...It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" (Matthew 4:4).
We would love to have you join us as we seek to glorify God together on this journey of faith through our glorious Lord, Jesus Christ.
